Kristin Chenoweth to Play Dusty Springfield

Kristin Chenoweth has been cast as Dusty Springfield in a forthcoming film about the singer's life.The Hollywood Reporter says Chenoweth will topline Universal Pictures' biopic of the soul singer.Springfield, born as Mary O'Brien in 1939, became the leading white soul singer of her generation with classics like I Only Want to Be With You and Son of a Preacher Man. However, her career fell prey to substance abuse and she died in 1999 from cancer.The film will concentrate on her life during the 1960's up until the making of the Dusty in Memphis album.Jessica Sharzer will direct from her own script.Chenoweth has a busy schedule coming up with parts in The Pink Panther, Running with Scissors and Stranger than Fiction.
