'V for Vendetta' is based on Alan Moore's graphic novel
Stephen Fry has been cast in V for Vendetta for Warner Bros.
Speaking to Empire Magazine the star said: "I thought Oh my god, they've found out about the other thing! Thank god for that! Yes, I just got back from Berlin today, in fact. I've been filming there all the time, and I'm going back on Sunday."
Fry, who will be heard as the voice of The Guide in the forthcoming Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy , says his character is "Gordon Deitrich, who's a chat show host who questions the authority of the people who run Britain in this post-viral fascist state, as it were."
The screenplay by Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski is based on the acclaimed graphic novel "V For Vendetta" by author Alan Moore (The Watchmen, Swamp Thing) and illustrator David Lloyd. Originally collected by DC Comics as a ten-part series in 1988, "V For Vendetta" has been praised for its vision, potency and eloquence.
Moore is widely considered to be one of the finest comic writers of all time, and has been credited with single-handedly expanding the potential of the comic book medium with his work.
Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante (James Purefoy) known only as “V.” Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he detonates two London landmarks and takes over the government-controlled airwaves, urging his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression.
