The film follows the grim days of fighting that led to the fall of Berlin
Downfall, the German film about the last days of Hitler will be shown in Israel.
The controversial film, which shows Hitler in a more human light, has been picked up by Israeli film distributor Nurit Shani following successful screenings in Jerusalem.
Downfall was adapted from the novel Inside Hitler's Bunker by Joachim Fest.
The book describes in detail the final weeks of the war, from the desperate battles that raged night and day in the ruins of Berlin, fought by boys and old men, to the growing paranoia that marked Hitler's mental state--his utter disregard for the well being of both soldiers and civilians-- to his suicide and the efforts of his loyal aides to destroy his body before the advancing Russian armies reached Berlin.
Downfall will play in three cities from May 19, just a couple of week after the Holocaust Memorial Day, which takes place on May 5.
