'My Friend Flicka' is based on Mary O'Hara's novel of the same name

The Hollywood Reporter says the movie is set on a modern-day ranch in Wyoming. It tells the story of Katie (Lohman), a teenager who dreams of running her family's ranch, much to the dismay of her father (McGraw); his hopes are pinned on her older brother.
