Variety reports filming will start this fall, though Affleck will not star in the movie himself.
The novel follows private investigators Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro who are hesitant to take on a case regards a missing child. But after pleas from the child's aunt, they open an investigation that will ultimately risk everything -- their relationship, their sanity, and even their lives -- to find a little girl-lost.
Lehane also wrote "Mystic River," which was adapted into an Oscar winning film by Clint Eastwood.

It seems like Ben is an intelligent fellow and a good poker player. But he chooses material poorly, it seems to me. Regardless of his talents as a director, if he can't pick better material, there's no chance his directing career will be any more successful than his acting career.
Well, I wish my career was as bad as you think Bens is. Damn, the guy makes like $10-15mil a year at least. Personally, I don't think he's all that bad an actor - just a terrible judge in picking good material (as already stated earlier) - ie, reindeer games.

Affleck is going to try and direct?????Shouldn't he learn to act first. I think that is a sign its the end of the world or something. God help us all. We are doomed. Maybe he will do the next Star Wars trilogy and we can herald him as the next George Lucas. That was an insult by the way. Good for nothing 39 bucks Hyspace club Lucas.
With that said, Bill Paxton is an awful actor, but did a hell of a job directing the movie Frailty. So maybe there is hope for Affleck. NOT! Maybe he is going back into rehab and just trying to cover it up by saying he is going to be directing. I read something the other day that said he was going to play Bruce Willis' son in Die Hard 4. Maybe they can tell each other 'I love you' again and provide us all with a tearjerking moment the likes of which we haven't seen since Titanic when Leo drowned. Of course, those were tears of joy.
