Gibson's Under and Alone Moving Forward

By James Wray Mar 1, 2005, 14:48 GMT

Warner Bros. Pictures is in talks with Antoine Fuqua to direct Mel Gibson in his next movie, "Under and Alone."

Variety reports the film has been written by Ned Zeman and Daniel Barnz, who developed the idea with Gibson.

"Under and Alone" is based on the real life of Vietnam veteran William Queen. After leaving Special FOrces Queen joined the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and, working undercover, became a full member of the San Fernando chapter of the Mongols motorcycle gang.

The film is due to start shooting this summer.

Having read the book (twice) I am looking forward to seeing the movie. I think Mel Gibson is an excellent choice for portraying Billy Queen.

I read the book when it was released. It was a very good read and will certainly make for a good movie as I believe it was written with that intention; it kind of shows in the writing.

One critique I have on the subject is if you are a law enforcement officer regardless of agency it is very irresponsible to release a book and insert several taunts within. This was done by Billy Queen in his book.

Had the book not read like it was prepared with a movie in mind, and had it excluded the taunting remarks towards biker clubs it would have fashioned a more solid message.

I read the book and I have met Queen. The book is excellent, Queen is the real deal. I look forward to the movie. As far as the taunting remarks referred to by DaTruthHurts----Can't say I recognized them. I believe the 54 arrest and 53 convictions were more of a taunt to any Mongol than some remark in a book they won't care to read, as they already know what they need to know.

If there is a taunting remark, its Queen's refreshingly honest statements concerning some of his superiors.

I just finished reading the book for the third time. Its a great book. In all due respect, alot of other books written on outlaw motorcycle gangs, its usually wriiten from somebody looking from the outside in. This book, Under And Alone, is written by a man who lived inside the tight nit circle of dangerous 1%'ers for 2 1/2 years and fought and lived the true life of a outlaw, instead of reading police reports and interviewing people about what they think of these gangs, and going on hearsay. William Queen is a hero in my mind, he went undercover that long and passed every one of the security checks on Billy St. John, patched in and became seceratary tresurer inside a year. Eves Lavigne books ain't bad, but its like reading a police report, Under And Alone is THE best book of its kind.

i thought the book was great, i only read non fiction. i'm looking forward to the movie i think mel gibson will do a very good job portraying bill queen. the only thing i could think of that might be a taunt was bill saying how stupid the mongols are and how much of a scumbag they are.

Taunting remarks? Where, when he said they were idiots and miscreants? They are.

Are the Mongols still gonna be the OMG in the flick,or are they gonna change the OMG's name? And if the name is gonna stay the same, did they hire some Mongols dumb enough to portray club members in a movie about the takedown of their own club?

I've read alot of books about 1%er's and this one is with out question the best yet.I agree with Dimebag, too many of them read like police reports. They start to get a little dull,so it was great too find a book that took you deep into the outlaw bikers world and let you walk (maybe a little wiser).
Can't wait for the movie, let's hope it's as exciting and dangerous as the book.

One hell of a book! Take a look at Hunter Thompson's Hell Angels saga in the 1960s and get a great perspective of OMGs then and now. Thompson was never in as much danger of loosing his life as Queen was. Bill Queen is what heroes are made of guts, determination, stamina, and some good old fashion luck! I only hope that the Hollywood types do him justice and not take too many liberties with the story. Too often Hollywood tries to make stories better by adding stuff that either didn't happen or couldn't. So to Gibson and the film company I say stick to the book it's almost Taylor made for you.

This is an excellent book. I have read several times. I would love to meet Queen and hear his stories. There is a special on Discovery Channel with actual ATF footage from Operation Ivan. It is play by play from the book. Awesome stuff. I cant wait until the movie comes out.

Billy Queen is a true American Hero. He has been in the center of Hell and lived to tell the true story. Billy gave up his life to face down evil at the heart of where it lives. Thank you Billy for caring enough to make a difference.

Excellent book and looking forward to an excellent movie. Beyond the Law was good with Charlie Sheen, but it could've been better. Hope Hollywood also picks up on 'No Angel....' by Jay Dobyns, another excellent read by an outstanding ATF agent.
