Correction: Kristin is half Asian. She's mixed of Chinese and Dutch.

How can a Chinese and a Dutch mix pass for a Pakistani/Indian girl? That's so insane. There is no lack of Indian actresses trying to overcome discrimination in Hollywood. An Indian actress would never be casted for a Chinese or a Caucasian -right?

Thsi is a joke right?Mar 3rd, 2005 - 15:40:10

are the makers of Partition trying to create an unbelievable story out of what actually happened? I think they should have gone with a new name or up and coming actress for the lead so the audience could be pulled into what truly happened. Kristin is the girl from smallville or the Chinese-Dutch girl, not the Indian Muslim traumatized woman??? BAD CASTING!! I am Indian and will not see the film due to casting..

no one cares what you think buddy.Mar 17th, 2005 - 12:07:52

your not watching it really won't make a difference. i'm sure it'll be better than most bollywood movies anyways. and remember, she's *playing* a part in the movie, doesn't matter which show she was on or if she was traumatized or not. you're just sour cos they didn't cast a south asian. geez! grow up.

Well actually...Apr 20th, 2005 - 03:00:42

muslim pple can look less 'indian' and more mixed...with lighter eyes and hair and skin..and she will fit in just fine. pple jus have this perception that she shud look indian as in dark eyed/dark haired.indians/pakastani's are very diverse in looks..she'll be fine

Typical Hollywood. Coincidence that it is the Muslim girl falling for the non-Muslim man, as opposed to the other way around?? hmmmm.

To some of the comments in this thread:

First, Partition is not a Hollywood film, it is Canadian, written and directed by Vic Sarin. There are not many Indian actresses in Canada, and the director picked Kristin because he wanted someone without preconceived notions or trained in the Bollywood style. He felt Kristin would be a blank slate he could work with to bring out the story. Check out a photograph of her in costume and you will see she can easily pass for Indian. As to the Muslim girl falling for a non-Muslim man (a Sikh in this case) comment, well, that was the story, based on the writers recollections. Again, nothing whatsoever to do with Hollywood, since the writer is a Canadian of Indian descent who lived in India at the time the film is set, 1947. He was born and raised in the Kashmir region before immigrating to Canada, where he is an acclaimed writer/director. It is a shame you will miss this wonderful film about prejudice and intolerance due to...prejudice and intolerance?

here the thing.........Aug 17th, 2005 - 06:34:51

there no such thing that there isn't that many south asian actresses. because their always there. the only reason the picked kristin is because she is exotic. but remeber she not even indian. i mean it wouldn't be a problem if they found a arab or persian to play the role. but a eurasian. basically the castin ppl are stupid. then again it is directed by a canadian, their messed up anyways.

another thing i just want to say it basically similar to the (rosario dawson) hispanic mulatto as a persian princess in oliver stone's Alexnader. it doesn't make any sense.or they think it will do.

I think Kristin will do a great job! And I completely agree with everyon who said she could fit right into the Indian/Pakistani role...I mean as someone brought up earlier Aishwarya Rai is like one of the most famous actresses in India and her skin color is pretty light and she kind of dark brown hair. With the right make-up and everything Kristin will look just fine! I mean Ben Kingsley play Gandhi in the movie Gandhi and he look absolutely fine! It's the question of whether she looks the part at first glance or not. That is what acting is! Fitting into a totally different role that is the opposite of what you're actually like and making it believable. And I have no doubt in my mind that Kristing will do just that!

Dude to all those people who are bitchin about that kristen kruek dosnt look indian in the film and that they should have picked an indian girl. U should check out the films pics. She looks more desi than a lot of paki's or indians now. ANd besides if u go to kahmir or a lot of the patons themsleves are white with green eyes. Kristen is a beautiful and talented actress. And if u dont like it stop whyinig and just dont see it. Ull be doing all us a favor.

Kristin is 100% Canadian, no Asian heritage at all. Some people should check their sources before starting saying stupid things and making fools of themselves.

All you guys are losers you wouldn't now a good actress if they were right in you face, Kristin is awesome and has played more roles then this one. It doesnt matter if there canadian or asian or anything it matters how good they are as actors and if they can actually act the part. She'll do great!! and I agree with the guy/girl who said if you don't like don't go and see it it's that simple I can't wait to see it. I think it's going to be better than when she played Earthsea. So the hell with you guys she'll do great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hell ya.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kristin Kreuk's the bestJan 13th, 2006 - 16:55:07

Okay, I just want to say that I am a fan of Kristin's. I truly believe that she will do an excellent job on this film. she is a great actress. I totaly agree with all those people who are in favour of her playing this role. Even if I wasn't one of her fans, I still would be in favour of her playing this role, I mean have you seen the pics of her in costum. If it was the first time I had ever seen her I would actually believe that her nationality was pakistanian or indiam, whatever. Yes she is famous for playing the Role of Lana Lang on Smallville but does that mean that she shouldn't be able to play any different roles. I mean Tom welling Plays Clark on that show, but he is also doing other movies. I just think that you guys should give her a chance, go watch the movie, see that she is great in it, because I promise you she will be, and stop complaining. I for one and 100% behind Kristin in this.

Kristin Kreuk's the bestJan 13th, 2006 - 17:19:44

Okay I just thought of another thing to add to my statement above. I noticed that alot of people are mad at the casting because they cast Kristin and she wasn't of indian decent. well This happens all the time. i mean I am Canadian, and there are many times, more than I can count, where an american plays a role of a canadian. You don't hear me or any canadians complaining about that. This also goes the other way. I mean Kristin is Canadian and she plays Lana Lang, an American. But I'm sure you guys don't mind that do you. And if you even try to say that this isn't the same then you are really grasping at straws as to why Kristin can't play this role in Partition. There is no reason why she can't. Again she is a good actress, looks the part, and isn't really currupted by the Hollywood scene. Plus she just plain rocks.

maybe you should check your sources first... kristin was born and raised in canada, but she's ethnically chinese-dutch... her mom is chinese (indonesian-born), and her dad is of dutch descent...

anyway... judging from what i saw in the trailer, i think partition is a great film... and, kristin is wonderful in it... i can't wait to see it!!

Okay, first off, Kristin Kreuk is 50% Chinese, and 50% Dutch. It says so on all of her webpages and profiles. Therefor, whoever said she wasn't even Asian, YOU need to be the one to check your resources. Kristin Kreuk is a great actress. Yes, most people only think of her as Lana Lang on the WB show Smallville, but this has nothing to do with that. She has proved that she can play different roles perfectly well. Just on Smallville she can go from a Pretty Pink Princess to Evil Possesive Witch in two seconds. So everyone needs to get over themselves. The movie hasn't even come out yet, so you don't have any right to judge. This movie is about getting past prejudice and intolerance. Whoever mentioned that first is right, this is turning out to be a prejudicial argument. You haven't seen the movie yet, so shut your mouths.

It's true, hollywood could have cast a pakistani/muslim girl for the role:more believable character. But you jackasses forgot to look at the marketing angle.
Kristin Kreuk plays a charcter on T.V. that's seen by a hell of a lot of people. meaning: she has a lot of exposure and believe it or not a wide and everexpznding fanbase plus she's really talented and lets face it: too hot for words. So the people making this movie are also gaining a really wide audience.
Take me for example: The only reason I'm watching this movie is 'cause I like kristin and have this insane impulse to check out anything she's doin'
so all-in-all she's a much safer and more sound choice than some noname pakistani or indian actress
