The USA theatre date for War of the Worlds, Pendragon Films, is listed as March 30, 2005. Today is March 18 and I have not been able to find any promotional info nor theatre listings for this film. Where can it be seen on the 30th?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Folks,

That date is the latest info we have, I would think regardless it will be a limited release.

Your best bet would be try asking on our shoot-off site eveofthewar.com, they will be tracking this a little closer. We can only list the most recent official info we have.

I have not yet heard of the release date for Australia and it is now May. I thought that the DVD of this movie was due for release in Mid May. It seems if that is the case there wont be much time for large screen viewing

This is truly a horrible film. I bought the DVD last week with great expectations, only to be horribly disappointed.

The acting in many places is simply horrible. The special effects are often laughingly amateurish (I could shoot better in my back yard), and the editing is moronic.

Seriously, how often do I have to sit and watch five minutes of footage of our hero walking across the English countryside? How long does it take to show people hiding behind trees? I would submit that the three minutes the movie spends showing people hiding behind trees is a bit long.

And somebody ought to tell the producer about lighting. In one scene it's pitch black with thunder and lighting, in the next scene our hero is rolling down a hillside on a bright cloudy day. In the very next seen, he runs along the base of the hill in a dark and stormy night.

There were so many embarrasing scenes, it's hard to pick the most horrible one, though having the hero point out Mars to his wife in a starry sky while the woods around them are blazing in brilliant full-daylight is probably in the top five.

The only redeeming features in this movie are the acting by the hero, Anthony Piana, and the sound track. Both are quite good. Piana plays both the writer and his brother in the story, and it's very hard to tell they are the same actor, even when you know they are. The mannerisms, speech and even tone and inflection of the voice are different enough to make you think they are brothers and not the same man. An excellent job. Unfortunately, he is handicapped by horrible directing and producing and the totaly rotten acting of nearly everyone else around him.

The only way I was even able to make this horrible movie watchable was by literally ripping out an entire hour of footage on my computer and re-burning the final product back to DVD. I was able to salvage a horrible three-hour movie into a tolerable two hour movie.

Unless you are able to do the same, I would reocmmend you save your money, and your digestion and wait for someone who actually knows how to make a movie create the classic adaptation.

I have to agree about the Pendragon WOTW. It seemed like 4 hours to me! The worst thing I saw in the movie was a 1950's era diesel switcher engine pulling a passenger train while making 'chuff chuff' steam locomotive sounds. Get real!!! I recall that they appeared to be American prototype passenger cars, not British, but I'm not watching it again simply to verify that! The fighting machines were fairly effective looking until they started moving. I simply could not get my brain to think of them as real machines. These machines did not seem to have real mass to them. When they moved, there was no disturbance to the surrounding vegetation or water when they were wading. The Thunderchild scenes particularly needed some help. There was no bow wave to the ship, only a sort of fuzziness at the waterline. It appeared to proceed at about 40 knots or better, much faster than a pre-dreadnaught would have been able to move. The turretless deck guns had no sailors to fire the guns--they must have been remote controlled!!! The red weed looked like painted vegetation. To give the movie its due, I did find it interesting. It had great potential. It was way too long, though.

I have to disagree with all these criticisms on the pendragon version of war of the worlds. the movie was a period piece, meant to viewed as if it had actually been filmed during those last years of the nineteenth century. at times the movie played like an old silent-era film. The acting was wonderfully overdone, and the martians convincing enough. sure, it's easy to criticize some of the scenes, particularly the thunder-child shots, but give pendragon a break, okay? they were working on a shoestring budget to give the world it's first authentic retelling of one of the greatest stories ever told.
I was first introduced to George Pal's WotW at the age of five. At age seven, I got Jeff Wayne's musical version. By age eight, I had forced myself to read and understand the original Wells story. I own every version of the movie. I have had lifelong nightmares of martian war machines striding through my town and picking through the rubble for human food. I am something of an authority on the subject.
To those who hated the movie, I would suggest that they just didn't get it.
The pendragon version is a masterpiece. It may not have had Spielberg's budget, but then again, look how Spielberg utterly raped the story.
I'm 34 years old now, and still having martian nightmares. Thank you, pendragon studios, for adding fuel to the fire. My obsession is now complete.
