The movie does not make the Nazis look like heroes at all. It shows mad and disgusting people that have no chance of winning whatsoever. They kill their own children and commit suicide in a surreal, opressing and dangerous scenery. Yes, Hitler was human. An animal could not have done what he did! In order to avoid repetition you have to understand that Hitler was a human being.

Finally a movie which paints Hitler in a color other than opaque black. As an embarassed American, I cannot escape the obvious parallel between the US president George Bush and Adolph Hitler. Both were kept in office by greedy, selfish 'patriots' who used rabid nationalism to hypnotize a gullible public. We cannot learn anything about Hitler if we simply paint him as opaque evil. Then he's as trivial as Darth Vader. We need to understand how ordinary German's patriotism was turned against themselves.
