By James Wray Nov 11, 2004, 0:00 GMT
Jon M. Chu is no longer to direct the Columbia Pictures' remake of musical Bye Bye Birdie. Chu was removed due to an escalating budget and high risk.
Although it started with a $25 million, Bye Bye Birdie is now looking at something like $65 million and as such is a fairly big movie at Sony.
The original followed a rock singer travels to a small Ohio town to make his farewell television performance and kiss his biggest fan before he is drafted. You can read a lot more about it in our database.
Casting news on Bye Bye Birdie is expected shortly.
Chu may be moved to anther less expensive project.
