Justin Chatwin in Talks for Role in The War of the Worlds

Justin Chatwin, who has had a TV career up to now, is in talks for a role opposite Tom Cruise in Steven Spielberg's The War of the Worlds.
Apparently, Chatwin beat several other actors for the part, which is as the son of Tom Cruise's character. Their relationship and how it develops is supposed to have a key role in the movie.
Tim Robbins is playing astronomer Ogilvy, with Miranda Otto as the wife of Cruise's character. Dakota Fanning comes in as their daughter.
War of the Worlds is based on HG Wells classic 1938 novel of the same name.
They came form outer space--Mars, to be exact. With deadly heat-rays and giant fighting machine they want to conquer Earth and keep humans as their slaves. Nothing seems to stop them as they spread terror and death across the planet. It is the start of the most important war in Earth's history.
And Earth will never be the same.
