Angelina Jolie is a magnificent Maleficent

Maleficent will hit theaters in 3-D on March 14, 2014.

In the perfect casting moment of the day, actress Angelina Jolie has been beautifully made up and styled as one of the most nefarious female fairytale villainesses ever.

Check out the horns, icy golden contacts and facial prostheses on Angelina Jolie in this first photo released of the Oscar-winning actress as Sleeping Beauty' evil character Maleficent.

Disney began production on Maleficent last week, with Jolie starring in this reimagined tale. 

Robert Stromberg (production designer on Avatar, Alice in Wonderland) will make his directorial debut with the film, which also stars Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley and Miranda Richardson, and is being executive produced by Jolie.

According to the Disney statement "the film reveals the events that hardened (Maleficent's) heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora."

Maleficent will hit theaters in 3-D on March 14, 2014.
