Oprah Winfrey could make her return to the big screen in the historical drama "The Butler."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lee Daniels would direct from a Danny Strong script that he rewrote.
Pamela Williams is producing through Laura Ziskin Productions.
The film is based on the true-life story of Eugene Allen, a black man who worked as a White House butler, serving eight presidents from 1952 to 1986. He passed away in 2010.
Wil Haygood wrote a 2008 article for the Washington Post about Allen titled "A Butler Well Served by This Election."
David Oyelowo ("Red Tails") is considered to be the favorite to play Allen.
Winfrey would play Allen's wife.
Hugh Jackman, Mila Kunis and John Cusack are also being mentioned as potential cast members.
Winfrey's last live-action film was Jonathan Demme's 1998 adaptation of Toni Morrison's book "Beloved."
She and Daniels have a previous working relationship with her having executive produced Daniels' Oscar-winning 2009 film "Precious."
