Legendary halts 'Paradise Lost'
By Adnan Tezer Feb 10, 2012, 20:37 GMT
Legendary Pictures has shut down production on "Paradise Lost," an adaptation of the epic 17th-century English poem by John Milton.
According to Variety, the special-effects heavy film required technology that would have pushed the already $120 million film way over budget.
Warner Bros. was to have distributed the film worldwide in late 2013.
Bradley Cooper, Ben Walker, Djimon Hounsou, Casey Affleck, Callan McAuliffe, Dominic Purcell, Diego González Boneta, Camilla Belle and Rufus Sewell had been cast.
Australian director Alex Proyas ("Dark City," "Knowing," "I, Robot" and "The Crow") was set to direct.
Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni were producing along with Vincent Newman and Proyas.
Stuart Hazeldine wrote the main draft of the screenplay that was originally written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. Lawrence Kasdan and Ryan Condal also did separate polishes.
The film was to have taken the frame of an action film, telling the story of the epic war in heaven between archangels Michael (Walker) and Lucifer (Cooper).
