Oscar nominees gather for pre-awards lunch
Feb 7, 2012, 13:02 GMT
Los Angeles - Oscar nominees George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Jean Dujardin gathered Monday along with dozens of other Oscar hopefuls for the traditional luncheon honouring the Academy Award nominees.
'This is the last time you'll be rooting for each other,' Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, told the gathering at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Other stars in attendance included Glenn Close, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Rooney Mara, Jonah Hill and Octavia Spencer. Director Martin Scorsese, whose film Hugo is one of the top nominees, made an appearance, while filmmaker Woody Allen, who usually shuns awards show, was nowhere in sight despite his nomination for Midnight in Paris.
Brian Grazer, who will produce the February 26 telecast, gave the first indication of what Oscar night will look like, telling his audience that the Kodak Theatre, where the ceremony will take place, would be redesigned to look like a 'timeless movie theatre.'
Observers had expected the Oscars to have a nostalgic theme this year, with two of the leading nominees, The Artist and Hugo, paying tribute to the early years of cinema.
