Daniel Radcliffe wants his new movie to 'traumatise' people.

The 22-year-old actor stars in new supernatural thriller 'The Woman In Black', and while it is not a gory or directly shocking film, he hopes it will have a deep psychological effect on the people who watch it.

He said: 'I want to traumatise as many people as I can with this film. This is not a bloody film or a gory film, it's nothing like that.

'I fall into the category of people who do not like gore and blood and any of that stuff - this is a film that's going to make you scared of the dark and it taps into more fundamental human fears.'

Daniel, 22, also said he is naturally protective of children on set, after his own experiences playing the titular boy wizard in the 'Harry Potter' films from the age of 10.

He added to UK TV show 'Daybreak': 'I'm always very protective of kids when they come onto film sets obviously because of my background.

'I had an amazing time on those first films - I had such a great experience and I always sort of feel some sort of obligation to make sure that they have a good time as well. And my real-life godson plays my son in the film, so there is an actual chemistry there and he's known me all his life and he's incredibly sweet, and actually really good in the film as well.'

Daniel also said it took him the duration of fliming two whole instalments in the 'Harry Potter' franchise to pluck up the courage to ask out his girlfriend, Rosanne Coker, who worked as a production assistant on the movies.

He added: 'She's a wonderful girl, amazing. We met, we worked together on the sixth 'Harry Potter' and the seventh, but it wasn't until the very end of the seventh that I finally plucked up the courage to ask her out. Yes, within the last year I feel like I've changed a lot and grown up a lot.'
