84th Annual Academy Award Nominations list

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences heralded the nominees on Tuesday morning by gifting the most Oscar nominations to two films that are retro homages to classic cinema.

"Hugo," Martin Scorsese's beautiful film, earned the most nominations with 11, including best picture, best director and best screenplay alng with several technical Oscars.

Black and white silent film "The Artist," the film about Hollywood in its transition to the "talkies" earned 10 nominations, including nods for best picture, best director, screenplay, actor and supporting actress.

"The Artist" took the Producers Guild Award this past weekend.
