'Contraband' wins MLK holiday weekend

Universal's action-thriller "Contraband" won the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend as it debuted with $28.8 million.
According to Variety, Disney's 3D re-release of "Beauty and the Beast" opened in the No. 2 spot with $23.5 million.
This was the best January opening for an animated film. The previous record-holder, "Hoodwinked!," opened with $16.9 million over the 2006 Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.
Paramount's "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" placed No. 3 with $14.2 million for a domestic cumulative of $189.4 million.
Warner Bros.' faith-based musical comedy "Joyful Noise" opened in the No. 4 spot with $13.8 million.
Warner Bros.' "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" placed No. 5 with $10.5 million for a domestic cumulative of $172.1 million.
