Paul Feig will direct Universal's romantic comedy "The Better Woman."
According to Variety, Julie Yorn is producing through her LBI Entertainment production shingle.
Amy Sherman-Palladino will write the script, from an idea by Ron Bass and Jen Smolka.
The film follows a young and successful executive who is rejected by her boyfriend for an older woman.
Desperate to find out why she was abandoned, she befriends the woman and reinvents herself.
Reese Witherspoon had been mentioned for the lead but is no longer involved in the project.
Feig is coming off the success of directing "Bridesmaids," which grossed over $288 million worldwide and is an awards contender.
He created the cult NBC show "Freaks and Geeks" with Judd Apatow.
