Producers Guild nominates Oscar favourites The Artist and Hugo
Jan 3, 2012, 18:18 GMT
Los Angeles - The Producers Guild of America, traditionally one of the best predictors of the Oscar winner for best picture, nominated many Oscar favourites for its own award Tuesday, with Terence Malick's Tree of Life the only major contender not making the cut.
The 10 films nominated by the union of Hollywood producers included the silent movie tribute, The Artist, as well as Hugo, Martin Scorsese's 3D homage to the early years of cinema.
George Clooney got two nods, for family drama The Descendants and political drama The Ides of March. Civil rights saga The Help was also nominated, as was the bawdy chick-flick Bridesmaids. Steven Spielberg's War Horse, Brad Pitt's Moneyball, Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, and David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo rounded out the 10 nominees.
The PGA awards are regarded as one of the most reliable Oscar predictors, with the winner of the PGA prize having gone on to Oscar glory in the last four years.
