Mark Bomback will write the adaptation for Universal Pictures' screen version of the bestselling Garth Stein novel "The Art of Racing in the Rain."
According to Variety, Patrick Dempsey will star in the film and produce with Original Film's Neal Moritz.
The story is driven by the memories of Enzo, a family dog with a near-human soul and a philosopher's mind, who evaluates his life through the lessons learned by his human owner, the race-car driver Denny Swift (Dempsey).
Dempsey is an accomplished pro race car driver and car owner.
Bomback's credits include "Live Free or Die Hard" and "Unstoppable."
He recently signed on to rewrite 20th Century Fox's "The Wolverine," with Hugh Jackman reprising his role as the mutant/X-Men member Wolverine.
