New Year's Eve tops box-office rankings

Los Angeles - The romantic ensemble comedy New Year's Eve topped the North American weekend box-office rankings, according to preliminary studio estimates issued Sunday.
The film from director Garry Marshall opened with three-day ticket sales of 13.7 million dollars. The movie portrays a group of New Yorkers ringing in the new year.
The all-star cast, drawing on three generations of A-list Hollywood talent, includes Zac Efron, Jessica Biel, Halle Berry, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro.
