After negotiations broke down with Benicio del Toro, Édgar Ramírez is now the favorite to play the villain in Paramount's upcoming untitled "Star Trek" sequel.

J.J. Abrams is directing from a script by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof.
Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison are producing through Bad Robot and Skydance Productions.
Shooting is set to begin next month with a May 17, 2013 release date set.
No plot details have been released yet.
