Peter Weller joins 'Star Trek' sequel

Peter Weller has joined the cast of Paramount's upcoming untitled "Star Trek" sequel.
According to Variety, J.J. Abrams is directing from a script by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof.
Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison are producing through Bad Robot and Skydance Productions.
Production is set to begin in early 2012 with a May 17, 2013 release date set.
No plot details have been released yet.
The majority of the cast from the 2009 reboot, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and John Cho, are returning.
Benicio del Toro has been cast as the villain and Alice Eve has joined the cast in an unspecified part.
Weller's role is also unspecified.
He is best known for his starring role in "Robocop" and the sequel "Robocop II."
His other feature credits include "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension," "Leviathan" and "Mighty Aphrodite."
