Christian Bale has turned down the title role in Paramount Pictures and New Regency's re-imagining of the Noah's ark story titled "Noah," to be directed by Darren Aronofsky.
According to Variety, Aronofsky is now looking to Michael Fassbender to fill the role.
Arnon Milchan is producing for New Regency along with Aronofsky and Scott Franklin.
Noah's Ark is the ship that, according to the Book of Genesis, was built by Noah at God's order to save himself, his family, and the world's animals from the Great Flood.
Aronofsky and Ari Handel wrote the first draft of the script with John Logan ("Any Given Sunday," "Gladiator," "Hugo Cabret") doing a rewrite.
Bale will reprise his role as Batman for the final time in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" next summer.
Fassbender has had a breakout year with praised roles in "Jane Eyre," "X-Men: First Class," "A Dangerous Method" and "Shame."
