Melina Kanakaredes ready to 'Snitch'
By Adnan Tezer Nov 17, 2011, 20:20 GMT
Melina Kanakaredes has joined the cast of Summit Entertainment's action thriller "Snitch."
According to Variety, Ric Roman Waugh ("Felon") is directing and rewrote the original script by Justin Haythe.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Susan Sarandon, Jon Bernthal, Barry Pepper, Michael K. Williams, Rafi Gavron and Nadine Velazquez have been cast.
Nigel Sinclair, Guy East, Alex Brunner, David Fanning, Gordon Gray and Johnson are producing with shooting set to begin in Shreveport, Louisiana next month.
The story centers on a father (Johnson) whose teenage son is sentenced to 30 years under mandatory minimum drug laws. In order to have his son's sentence reduced, the father goes undercover to rat out a powerful drug dealer.
The story was inspired by a PBS "Frontline" documentary detailing recent shifts in U.S. drug laws toward federal mandatory sentencing minimums and how these shifts had, in turn, forced the guilty to snitch on others.
Kanakaredes is best known for her roles on NBC's "Providence" and CBS's "CSI: NY."
