Veteran screenwriter Eric Roth is in talks to rewrite the script for Sony Pictures' "Cleopatra," with Angelina Jolie attached to star in the title role.
According to Variety, Brian Helgeland adapted the initial screenplay from Stacy Schiff's book "Cleopatra: A Life."
David Fincher's name has been mentioned as a possible director.
Scott Rudin is producing.
The film will tell the story of Cleopatra VII, the young Queen of Egypt and the last pharaoh of Ancient Egypt, and her love affairs with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony.
Several screen versions of Cleopatra have appeared throughout the years, most notably in 1934 with Claudette Colbert as Cleopatra as well as the infamous 1963 version with Elizabeth Taylor.
Roth won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Forrest Gump" in 1994.
He wrote the screenplay for the upcoming film "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" which Rudin produced and also wrote the script for Fincher's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" in 2008.
