Stephen Gaghan has rewritten the script for Sony Pictures and Overbrook Entertainment's sci-fi film "One Thousand A.E.," to be directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
According to Variety, Will and Jaden Smith star in the film.
Shyamalan rewrote the original script by Gary Whitta before Gaghan came aboard for an additional polish.
Production is scheduled to begin in February.
Set 1,000 years into the future, the sci-fi film centers on an estranged father (Will Smith) and son (Jaden Smith) who must navigate through a dangerous and abandoned earth after their ship crashes.
Shyamalan is producing along with Will Smith and his Overbrook partners Ken Stovitz, Jada Pinkett Smith and James Lassiter.
Gaghan wrote and directed the political thriller "Syriana" and won a best-adapted screenplay Oscar for "Traffic."
