John Carney to direct Steve Carell in 'Dogs of Babel'

John Carney will direct Mandate Pictures' adaptation of Carolyn Parkhurst's dramatic novel "The Dogs of Babel" starring Steve Carell.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jamie Linden wrote the script.
Carell, David Heyman, Corey May and Dooma Wendschuh are producing through Carell's Carousel Productions, Heyman's Heyday Films and Wendschuh's Sekretagent Productions.
The film follows a linguistics professor (Carell) who questions the police ruling that his wife's death was an accident. He proceeds to teach the only witness to her death, his dog, how to talk.
No shooting date has been set.
Carney is best known for writing and directing the 2006 Irish musical film "Once."
