MGM has picked up the Eminem boxing film "Southpaw" after DreamWorks put the project into turnaround.
According to Variety, Sony Pictures will distribute the film.
Antoine Fuqua ("The Replacement Killers," "Training Day," "Tears of the Sun," "Brooklyn's Finest") is directing from a Kurt Sutter script.
This would be Eminem's first film since the critically acclaimed 2002 drama "8 Mile."
The film centers on a former left-handed welterweight champ (Eminem) who reclaims his past glory and his daughter's love after a tragedy.
Alan and Peter Riche are producing along with Stuart Parr and Paul Rosenberg of Eminem's Shady Films production company.
