Casey Affleck has joined the cast of Legendary Pictures' "Paradise Lost," an adaptation of the epic 17th-century English poem by John Milton. According to Variety, Warner Bros. will distribute the film worldwide in late 2013. Shooting is set for January 2012 in Sydney, Australia. Bradley Cooper, Ben Walker and Djimon Hounsou have already been cast. Australian director Alex Proyas ("Dark City," "Knowing," "I, Robot" and "The Crow") will direct with the special-effects heavy film being shot in 3D. Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce along with Vincent Newman and Proyas. Stuart Hazeldine wrote the main draft of the screenplay that was originally written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. Lawrence Kasdan and Ryan Condal also did separate polishes. The film will take the frame of an action film, telling the story of the epic war in heaven between archangels Michael (Walker) and Lucifer (Cooper). Hounsou has been cast as Abdiel, the angel of death. Affleck will play Gabriel, the six-winged angel created by God to be a messenger. Diego González Boneta (the upcoming "Rock of Ages") and Camilla Belle ("10,000 BC") are in talks to play Adam and Eve, respectively. Affleck will be seen in the upcoming Universal comedy "Tower Heist."
