Clifton Collins Jr. has joined the cast of Guillermo del Toro's monster movie "Pacific Rim" for Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures.
According to Variety, production on the film begins in September with a July 12, 2013, release date set.
Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Max Martini, Rob Kazinsky and Willem Dafoe have already been cast.
Del Toro will produce with Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.
Travis Beacham wrote the script.
The film centers on a group of humans that develop robots to fight off an extraterrestrial force that threatens the Earth's existence.
Del Toro had been working on an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" for Universal, but problems arose over budget and rating.
The veteran character actor Collins Jr. was recently on "CSI: NY" and "The Event."
