Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon are in talks to join Jeff Nichols' drama "Mud."
According to Variety, Nichols will direct from his own script.
The film centers on two 14-year-old boys who attempt to help an escaped convict named Mud get off a Mississippi River island.
Aaron Ryder and Sarah Green are producing.
McConaughey was last seen in "The Lincoln Lawyer."
Witherspoon was last seen in "Water For Elephants."
Nichols is a hot commodity right now off the buzz he is receiving for his upcoming film "Take Shelter" starring Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon.
It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will be released by Sony Pictures Classics on September 30.
