'Planet of the Apes' takes box office win

20th Century Fox's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" won the domestic box office over the weekend as it debuted with $54 million.
According to Variety, Sony's "The Smurfs" placed No. 2 with $21 million for a domestic cumulative of $76.2 million.
Universal's "Cowboys and Aliens" finished in the No. 3 spot with $15.8 million for a domestic cumulative of $67.4 million.
Universal's comedy "The Change-Up" opened in the No. 4 spot with $13.5 million.
Paramount's "Captain America: The First Avenger" finished in the No. 5 spot with $13 million for a domestic cumulative of $129.8 million.
