Sony Pictures Classics has acquired domestic distribution rights to Lawrence Kasdan's independent drama-comedy "Darling Companion."
According to Variety, Kasdan directed from a script he co-wrote with wife Meg.
The film stars Diane Keaton, Kevin Kline, Dianne Wiest, Richard Jenkins, Elisabeth Moss, Mark Duplass, Ayelet Zurer and Sam Shepherd.
The film was produced by Anthony Bregman for Likely Story, Elizabeth Redleaf for Werc Werk Works and Lawrence Kasdan.
The film focuses on a woman (Keaton) who loves her dog more than her distant husband (Kline). The husband then loses the dog after a wedding at their vacation home in the Rockies. A search for the dog ensues that sets off unexpected consequences.
Sony will release the film in 2012.
The film is the third in a trilogy that includes Kasdan's 1983 classic "The Big Chill" and his 1991 drama "Grand Canyon," which he also co-wrote with Meg.
Kasdan most recently co-wrote and directed "Dreamcatcher," in 2003. He also co-wrote and directed "Wyatt Earp," "The Accidental Tourist" and "Silverado."
