Arnold Schwarzenegger will star in Lionsgate's action-western "The Last Stand."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jee-woon Kim is directing from a script by Andrew Knauer.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing.
The film centers on a border-town sheriff (Schwarzenegger) and his inexperienced deputies who must catch a recently escaped Mexican cartel boss.
Liam Neeson had been attached as the sheriff but has left the project.
Schwarzenegger had been attached to the drama "Cry Macho" but dropped out in May after a scandal broke out over his fathering a child with his housekeeper.
The former governor of California temporarily put his return to acting on hold.
Schwarzenegger last starred in 2003's "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines." He had a cameo in Lionsgate's "The Expendables" last year as well as 2004's "Around the World in 80 Days."
