Bryan Cranston is in talks to join the cast of Warner Bros.' 1940s cop movie "Gangster Squad."
According to Variety, Ruben Fleischer ("Zombieland") will direct.
Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie and Michael Pena have been cast.
"Gangster Squad" is based on a seven-part Los Angeles Times article written by Paul Lieberman that details how, during 1940s corruption and chaos, the LAPD created a special unit called the Gangster Squad to prevent the East Coast mafia from infecting the city.
Dan Lin and Kevin McCormick are producing.
Former LAPD officer Will Beall wrote the screenplay.
Cranston is best known for his Emmy-winning role as Walter H. White in AMC's "Breaking Bad."
He'll be seen in the upcoming Tom Hanks comedy "Larry Crowne."
