Julia Ormond has an offer to join the cast of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' Superman reboot "Man of Steel", opposite Henry Cavill as Superman.
According to Variety, Ormond would play Lara, Superman's Kryptonian biological mother.
Russell Crowe will play Jor-El, Superman's Kryptonian biological father.
The cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent, and Antje Traue as Faora.
Zack Snyder ("300," "Watchmen," "Sucker Punch") is directing with shooting set to begin later this summer.
The film is set for a December 2012 release before Warners could potentially lose the copyright on the character in 2013.
Christopher Nolan will produce with wife Emma Thomas, as well as Charles Roven ("The Dark Knight") and Deborah Snyder ("Watchmen," "Sucker Punch").
David S. Goyer ("Batman Begins") wrote the script, based on a story he conceived with Nolan.
Plot details are being kept under wraps.
Ormond was recently on the TV shows "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "Nurse Jackie." She is best known for her film roles in "Legends of the Fall" and the 1995 remake of "Sabrina."
