Idris Elba boards 'Pacific Rim'

Idris Elba has joined the cast of Guillermo del Toro's monster movie "Pacific Rim" for Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures.
According to Variety, a September 2011 production start date has been set with a summer 2013 release date in mind.
Charlie Hunnam and Charlie Day have already been cast.
Del Toro will produce with Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.
Travis Beacham wrote the script.
The film centers on a group of humans that develop robots to fight off an extraterrestrial force that threatens the Earth's existence.
Elba can be currently seen in "Thor" and had been in the mix for the lead in Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained."
He's best known for his role as Russell 'Stringer' Bell on HBO's "The Wire."
