Charlie Day in talks to join the cast of Guillermo del Toro's monster movie "Pacific Rim" for Legendary Pictures.
According to Variety, a September 2011 production start date has been set with a summer 2013 release date in mind.
Charlie Hunnam ("Sons of Anarchy") has already signed on for the male lead.
Del Toro will produce with Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.
Travis Beacham wrote the script.
The film centers on a group of humans that develop robots to fight off an extraterrestrial force that threatens the Earth's existence.
Del Toro had been working on an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" for Universal, but problems arose over budget and rating.
Day will be seen in New Line's upcoming comedy "Horrible Bosses."
