'Lantern' has soft opening but wins box office

Warner Bros.' "Green Lantern" had a less than stellar opening but still won the domestic box office with $52.7 million.
According to Variety, Paramount's “Super 8” came in at No. 2 with $21.3 million for a domestic cumulative of $72.8 million.
20th Century Fox's Jim Carrey comedy "Mr. Popper's Penguins" opened in the No. 3 spot with $18.2 million.
20th Century Fox's "X-Men First Class" came in at the No. 4 spot with $11.5 million for a domestic cumulative of $119.9 million.
Warners' "The Hangover Part II" placed No. 5 with $9.6 million for a domestic cumulative of $232.7 million.
