The Weinstein Company has purchased domestic distribution rights to Madonna's second directorial effort, "W.E."
According to Variety, Madonna wrote the script with Alek Keshishian, who directed her in "Truth or Dare."
The biopic tells about the affair between Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson that led to the British monarch abdicating the throne to marry his lover.
James D'Arcy will star as Kind Edward VIII opposite Andrea Riseborough ("The Long Walk to Finchley") as Wallis Simpson.
Abbie Cornish and Oscar Isaac will play a contemporary couple in the present day.
The cast also includes Natalie Dormer, Richard Coyle, James Fox and Laurence Fox.
The film is set to be released later this year.
Madonna's directorial debut was on the 2008 film "Filth and Wisdom."
