Demian Bichir has joined the cast of Oliver Stone's adaptation of Don Winslow's novel "Savages."
According to Variety, Universal will distribute the film.
Stone is producing with Moritz Borman and did a polish on the script by Winslow and Shane Salerno.
Shooting is set to begin July 6.
The cast includes Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Blake Lively, John Travolta, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Uma Thurman and Emile Hirsch.
The film follows two marijuana growers and dealers (Kitsch and Johnson) from Laguna Beach who share a girlfriend named Ophelia (Lively). Ophelia is kidnapped and held for ransom when the two friends resist being pushed out of the business by a Mexican drug cartel.
Bichir is best known for playing Fidel Castro in Steven Soderbergh's epic "Che" and Esteban Reyes on Showtime's "Weeds."
