Rami Malek has joined the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson's untitled religious drama.
According to Variety, the cast includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, David Warshofsky and Lena Endre.
Anderson is directing from his own script.
The Weinstein Company is distributing the film worldwide.
The film follows Lancaster Dodd (Hoffman), a.k.a. The Master, who creates a new religious organization in the post-WWII 1950s that catches on with the American public.
The religion is closely related to Scientology.
Phoenix plays Freddie Sutton, an alcoholic drifter who gravitates towards Dodd and falls under his spell only to later begin questioning his charismatic mentor.
Anderson, JoAnne Sellar and Daniel Lupi are producing along with Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures.
Production is scheduled to begin later this month in Sacramento.
Malek's credits include the two "Night at the Museum" films and will be seen opposite Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in "Larry Crowne."
