20th Century Fox has pushed back the release date of Ang Lee's 3D adaptation of Yann Martel's novel "Life of Pi" one week from Dec. 14, 2012 to Dec. 21, 2012.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this comes after New Line and Warner Bros. announced last week that Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" would be released on Dec. 14, 2012.
Gill Netter and David Womark are producing "Pi."
David Magee ("Finding Neverland") wrote the adaptation.
The cast includes Irrfan Khan, Gerard Depardieu, Adil Hussain, Bollywood actress Tabu and Tobey Maguire.
The novel tells the story of a boy (Pi) lost at sea for 227 days in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger, a hyena, a zebra and an orangutan after the ship carrying his family and its zoo animals sinks.
17-year-old newcomer Suraj Sharma is playing the title role.
