Amy Adams has joined the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson's untitled religious drama.
According to Variety, the cast includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, David Warshofsky and Lena Endre.
Anderson is directing from his own script.
The Weinstein Company is distributing the film worldwide.
The film follows Lancaster Dodd (Hoffman), a.k.a. The Master, who creates a new religious organization in the post-WWII 1950s that catches on with the American public.
The religion is closely related to Scientology.
Phoenix plays Freddie Sutton, an alcoholic drifter who gravitates towards Dodd and falls under his spell only to later begin questioning his charismatic mentor.
Adams will play Hoffman's wife.
Anderson, JoAnne Sellar and Daniel Lupi are producing along with Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures.
Production is scheduled to begin later this month in Sacramento.
Adams was last seen in "The Fighter" and will be seen in Disney's "The Muppets."
