Shana Feste to take on 'Mermaid'

Shana Feste will write and direct Sony's film adaptation of Carolyn Turgeon's novel "Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale."
According to Variety, Feste and Sony have a previous relationship with Feste having written and directed "Country Strong" for the studio.
"Mermaid," which is a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid," tells of a princess who, desperate to save her kingdom, proceeds on a treacherous journey to marry the prince of her rival kingdom. She is unaware, however, that a beautiful mermaid has fallen for the prince and has sacrificed everything to be with him.
Tobey Maguire is producing through his Material Pictures along with Jenno Topping.
Maguire and Topping also produced "Country Strong."
