MGM and Screen Gems are collaborating on a remake of Stephen King's "Carrie."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is writing the screenplay.
Aguirre-Sacasa is a playwright, screenwriter and Marvel comic-book writer who recently worked on the script for the troubled Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark."
No director or cast has been announced yet.
"Carrie" was the first published Stephen King novel and the first to be adapted into a feature film.
The film and the novel tell the story of a shy and sheltered teenage girl, Carrie White, who discovers she has telekinetic powers that are unleashed when she is pushed too far by her peers and abusive mother. Tragedy ensues when she is humiliated during her prom.
The 1976 film was directed by Brian De Palma and starred Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Betty Buckley, Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, William Katt and John Travolta.
Lawrence D. Cohen wrote the adaptation for the film.
A 1988 Broadway musical followed along with a 1999 sequel "Carrie 2: The Rage" and a 2002 TV movie.
