By Adnan Tezer May 6, 2011, 18:10 GMT
Anthony Mackie is in talks to join the cast of Warner Bros.' 1940s cop movie "Gangster Squad."
According to Variety, Ruben Fleischer ("Zombieland") will direct.
Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin are all in official negotiations to star in the film.
"Gangster Squad" is based on a seven-part Los Angeles Times article written by Paul Lieberman that details how, during 1940s corruption and chaos, the LAPD created a special unit called the Gangster Squad to prevent the East Coast mafia from infecting the city.
Dan Lin and Kevin McCormick are producing.
Former LAPD officer Will Beall wrote the screenplay.
Mackie, who had his breakout role in the "The Hurt Locker," was last seen in "The Adjustment Bureau."
