Barry Levinson picks up 'Gotti'

Barry Levinson will direct the independent film "Gotti: Three Generations."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nick Cassavetes was set to direct but had to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Marc Fiore is producing through his Fiore Films.
John Travolta is set to play John Gotti Sr. Joe Pesci will play Gotti enforcer Angelo Ruggiero while Lindsay Lohan will play Kim Gotti, the wife of John Gotti Jr.
Actor-writer Leo Rossi wrote the screenplay, which will focus on the relationship between John Gotti Sr. and his son John Gotti Jr.
Gotti Sr. was the head of the Gambino crime family and died behind bars in 2002. Gotti Jr. took over the family business for his father and also served time in prison, but was able to evade conviction in four subsequent racketeering trials.
Shooting will take place in New York.
A late 2012 release has been set.
Levinson recently directed the HBO film "You Don't Know Jack" with Al Pacino.
His new thriller "The Bay" will be released by Lionsgate later in the year.
